Bandits Split Los Angeles Double Header Road Trip
by Staff Writer
04/04/04-The Bandits made their first road trip of the year to Hacienda Heights to gain
some experience playing on the fields where the 2004 CABA World Series will be
played. The weekend experience featured a little travel, a hotel stay-over and some quality
baseball against two of the best teams in Southern California.
Starting off early Sunday morning the Bandits faced the Heat of La Puenta. The Bandits
came out hitting with three quick runs in the top of the first inning. The Heat came to play
as well and responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Bandits bats
were loaded though and the hitting spree continued with ten more runs spread out over the
next five innings. Excellent pitching and strong defense shut down the Heat bats and the
Bandits sailed on to a 13-3 win.
The Bandits took a thirty minute break as the next opponent took their spot in the
opposing dugout. The opponent this time was the West Covina Bombers. The Bandits
knew these boys as they have been the only team to defeat the Bandits in 2004 tournament
play. The Bandit boys took the field but it was obvious the thirty minute break had sapped
the boy’s energy and the pop from the Bandit bats. After just one inning the Bandits were
down 5-0. Nick Anderson tried to jump start a rally in the fourth inning when he smashed
the weekend’s only home run over the left center field fence, but the Bandits could not
find put together a sustained hitting streak. The Bombers held on with good defense to win
the game 13-7.
