Bandits Open New Year With A Win Over the Hawks

In their 2004 season opener, the Bandits were matched up against the Hawks of
Carlsbad. Fortunately the Bandits came out ready to play earning their first victory of the
new year.
In the top of the first inning the Hawks managed to put two runs on the board after a game
opening, lead-off single. The Bandits came in and quickly battled back with two runs of
their own and the game was tied at 2-2. Both teams failed to score in the second inning.
The Hawks jumped ahead with one run in the top of the third but the Bandits posted three
runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Bandits never looked back, as they
sailed on to a 7-6 victory in five and a half innings.
Highlights of the game included:
JP pitched two solid innings and stroked a solid triple to right center field.
Bryan logged two doubles and played well behind the plate – including one major league
diving catch!
Brandon pitched one perfect inning, striking out the side with just ten pitches.
Nicholas had several key plays in the infield and made the final put-out to first base from
shortstop.
AJ scored a run after stealing three bases.
Kevin Lyle played strong defense and hit the ball hard.
Niko had one single and was thrown out at first on another hard hit infield ball.
Christian turned a double play from first base.
Nick Anderson played catcher extremely well.
Danny had several big put-outs from SS, and he shut down the Hawks in the final inning
with great pitching.
Evan had one walk and ran the bases well, almost stealing his way all the way home.
